Preserving Tradition.

Delivering Professional Service.

Meet Chris Bertone

My name is Chris Bertone, and I’m the owner and gunsmith behind The Andover Arms Gunsmith.

I’m a United States Marine Corps infantry veteran, and I had the privilege of serving in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. My time in the Marine Corps shaped a lot of who I am today, especially when it comes to discipline, attention to detail, accountability, and taking pride in doing things the right way.

Firearms have been a major part of my life for more than 20 years.

After my military service, I continued working in the firearms industry and gained experience in sales, service, repair, maintenance, compliance, and customer support. Over the years, I also had the opportunity to work with and apprentice under experienced gunsmiths, which is where I really began to appreciate just how much skill, patience, and judgment this trade requires.

I’ve always been mechanically minded and curious about how things work. That naturally led me deeper into gunsmithing and eventually into formal classes, specialized training, and learning machine work on mills and lathes. Machining gave me an entirely new appreciation for precision, tolerances, fitment, and the amount of thought that can go into even a seemingly simple repair.

What I enjoy most about gunsmithing is that no two jobs are exactly the same. I like the challenge of diagnosing a problem, understanding why something is happening, and finding the correct solution. I’ve never been a fan of simply replacing parts until a problem goes away. I’d rather take the time to understand what the firearm actually needs and make the repair properly.

I also really enjoy the history behind firearms. Some of the most rewarding projects are the ones that come with a story — an old hunting rifle that belonged to someone’s grandfather, a military firearm with historical significance, or a piece that has been in a family for generations. I understand that those firearms can mean a lot more to someone than their monetary value, and I try to treat them accordingly.

Opening my own shop was something that developed over many years.

I wanted to create the kind of gunsmith shop I would personally want to walk into, a place that feels welcoming, traditional, and trustworthy. I wanted customers to be able to talk directly with the person doing the work, ask questions, and know that their firearm is being handled by someone who genuinely cares about the finished result.

I’m also the type of person who believes you never stop learning. Gunsmithing is a trade where experience matters, but there is always another technique to learn, another firearm design to understand, and another craftsman you can learn something from. I continue to study, train, research, and build my skills because I want the quality of my work to keep improving.

At the end of the day, The Andover Arms Gunsmith is a very personal business for me. It brings together my military background, my years in the firearms industry, my interest in machining and craftsmanship, and my appreciation for the history behind the trade.

More than anything, I want people who walk through my door to feel like they have found a gunsmith they can come back to for years — someone they know, someone they can talk to, and someone they can trust with their firearms.

Our Story

The Andover Arms Gunsmith began with a decision to take years of experience in the firearms industry and build something of my own.

Rather than start with a traditional retail storefront, I chose to build a dedicated gunsmithing shop on my property from the ground up. The goal was to create a professional, purpose-built workspace focused on firearm service, repair, restoration, refinishing, machining, and custom work while maintaining the personal feel of a traditional local gunsmith.

Since then, I have continued investing in the shop, outfitting it with professional gunsmithing equipment, machining capabilities, ultrasonic cleaning systems, refinishing equipment, specialized tooling, and dedicated work areas designed to handle a wide range of projects.

At the same time, I have worked to build strong relationships within the local firearms community, including law enforcement agencies, fellow firearms professionals, distributors, and other industry partners. Those relationships are an important part of the long-term vision for the business and allow The Andover Arms Gunsmith to serve individual firearm owners, collectors, hunters, law enforcement, and professional clients alike.

What started as an idea has steadily grown into a fully equipped shop built around craftsmanship, capability, and long-term service to the community.
